About PsychLog

PsychLog is the lightning-fast logbook for Australian provisional psychologists on the 5+1 pathway. It works the way you actually work — type, Tab, done — tracks every Board requirement automatically, generates reports your supervisors can sign online without an account, and keeps three private journals alongside your logbook. All of it built around one belief: your logbook should take minutes a week, not your Sunday nights.

PsychLog first launched in 2022, built for the 4+2 pathway, and was rebuilt from the ground up in 2026 for the 5+1 — by a provisional psychologist who is living the pathway right now. Your data is hosted and encrypted in Australia, exportable always.

About the founder

Cathryn Doney, founder of PsychLog

PsychLog is built by me — Cathryn Doney, a provisional psychologist completing the internship year of the 5+1 pathway at a private practice in Victoria.

Before psychology, I had a long career in technology. I started as a software engineer and, over the years, worked across the whole lifecycle: design, security, data communications, testing, delivery, and leading the teams that do it. I've managed technology budgets in the tens of millions, led a team that kept police, hospital and emergency-services systems available around the clock, and for several years led the IT portfolio for a public health service — more than two hundred clinical and business applications.

I know what it takes to build software that health professionals can trust, because keeping that trust used to be my job. I've also helped large organisations through technology change, and one thing I learned for sure is that the best tools are the ones designed by the people who use them.

Then I retrained. Psychology had been calling for a long time. In 2021, I completed my honours degree with First Class Honours and received the Australian Psychological Society Prize. In 2022, on the 4+2 pathway, I ran head-first into the logbook problem: colour-coded spreadsheets, clunky forms and Sunday nights lost to admin. I'd spent my working life around software; I knew it didn't have to be like this — so I built PsychLog for the 4+2. And people used it.

I didn't complete the 4+2 because, well, life. When I came back to psychology in 2025, I started again via the separate 5+1 pathway. The logbook problem was still there — but so were the bones of PsychLog. So, deep in my own 5+1 internship, I rebuilt PsychLog specifically for the 5+1. I kept what had worked, rethought what hadn't, and rebuilt the product on modern, robust technology for the requirements of the pathway I'm now living myself.

Every feature in PsychLog gets used in my own internship before it ships. The one-key entries exist because I log full clinical days myself. The private journals exist because I wanted my longer reflections to have a home of their own. The online sign-off exists because my supervisors are as busy as yours.

I'm still living the 5+1. That's the point.
